It's Christmas day, but it never felt like it. We had a wonderful time touring the ruins and then taking a side hike I will never forget -- up to the top of Huayna Picchu.

jayandcorey > The central plaza. Machu Picchu was a sacred pilgrimage site, especially during festivals at equinox and other significant times of the year. This plaza was a fairground, sports arena and stadium.

jayandcorey > I doubt this tree was placed here by the Inca. Likely it was just left when they excavated this site. It is, however, quite lovely.
