June 8, 2005. Jay and I are off on another adventure: South Africa! Since our last trip (Machu Picchu) was a fulfillment of one of my dreams, we thought it only fair to make one of Jay's dreams come true this year too. Ever since he started running ultramarathons, he has wanted to run the Comrade's Marathon in South Africa -- the most popular ultramarathon in the world. Now we are about to make that happen. So we boarded the plane in Indianapolis in the afternoon and, after 31 hours of sitting in airplanes or in airports in Detroit and Amsterdam, we arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa the next day at 8:30 PM (their time). This photo is from my window overlooking northern Indiana on the first leg of our flight.
